An airdrop is a marketing strategy used by cryptocurrency projects to distribute free tokens to users, either as a reward for engagement or to promote a new digital asset. These giveaways help increase awareness, expand token ownership, and encourage users to interact with the project. Some airdrops require users to complete small tasks—such as following social media accounts, joining a community, or signing up for a newsletter—while others are distributed automatically to wallets based on specific eligibility criteria.

Airdrops can be targeted in different ways. Some are sent to users who already hold a particular cryptocurrency, while others are distributed to those who have previously interacted with a project’s platform. In some cases, recipients are randomly selected through raffles or promotional campaigns.
