The ask is the lowest price one or more sellers are willing to accept for a crypto asset in an order book at any given time. The ask is often compared with the bid, which is the highest price a buyer is willing to pay at any given time. The difference between the bid and the ask is called the spread. When a user places a market buy order, the order typically fills against available asks, beginning with the lowest ask price and moving higher if more liquidity is needed. If the lowest seller on a Bitcoin order book is offering Bitcoin at $90,050, then $90,050 is the ask price a market buy order may hit first.
