Base currency

Base currency is the first asset shown in a trading pair. In a BTC-CAD pair, Bitcoin is the base currency and Canadian dollars are the quoted currency. The price of the pair informs the user how much of the quote currency is needed to buy one unit of the base currency. Base currency also tells the user what asset they are buying or selling. In simple terms, the base currency is the asset being measured, while the quote currency is the asset used to price it.

In a BTC-CAD trading pair, Bitcoin is the base currency. If the quoted price is $100,000, that means one Bitcoin is currency priced at $100,000 CAD.
