Address poisoning

Address poisoning is a crypto scam where attackers send small transactions from lookalike wallet addresses. The goal is to poison the victim’s transaction history so the fake lookalike address appears visible and beside real addresses in a wallet or blockchain explorer. The scam works because many people check only the first and last few characters of a long crypto address. The safest approach is to take your time, slow down, confirm the source, and always double check addresses carefully.

For example, an attacker may send one or more tiny transactions from an address that starts and ends like a trusted and familiar address. If the potential victim copies that fake address from their transaction history, funds may be sent to the scammer.
