Bitcoin (BTC) is the first and most widely recognized cryptocurrency, launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. As a decentralized digital currency, Bitcoin enables peer-to-peer transactions without the need for intermediaries, operating on a secure and transparent blockchain network.

It relies on the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, where miners validate transactions and secure the network by solving complex cryptographic puzzles in exchange for newly minted BTC. With a capped supply of 21 million coins, Bitcoin is often referred to as "digital gold" due to its scarcity and deflationary nature. It is widely used as a store of value, an investment asset, and a means of transferring wealth globally. Bitcoin can be acquired through cryptocurrency exchanges, mining, or peer-to-peer transfers.
