Block size is the maximum amount of transaction data that can be included in a single block on a blockchain. It is usually measured in bytes or weight units, depending on the network. Block size helps determine how many transactions can be confirmed in each block and influences how the network packages, stores, and shares transaction data. Because block size limits how much data can be added at once, it is one factor that shapes a blockchain’s throughput and how quickly new transactions can be included during periods of high activity.
If a blockchain has a small block size, fewer transactions can fit into each block. During busy periods, users may have to wait longer than normal or pay higher fees to get included.
