Crypto asset

Blockchain Basics
Easy

A crypto asset is a digital asset recorded on a blockchain or distributed ledger system. It can represent value, access rights, governance rights, or other on-chain functionality depending on the protocol. Crypto assets include coins that are native to a blockchain (such as BTC on Bitcoin) and tokens issued via smart contracts on an existing blockchain (such as many ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum). Ownership and control of a crypto asset are often determined by cryptographic keys, while transfers are recorded through the network’s consensus process.

For example, USDC is a crypto asset issued as a token on multiple blockchains. A user can hold USDC in a wallet and transfer it to another address on the same network.
